After moving into £450k new house, couple finds faults

After moving in, a couple who believed they were purchasing their £450,000 “forever house” found over 250 problems, including falling walls, damaged doors, and questionable electrical work.

When Nadia and Damian Jaworska moved into their David Wilson Homes home in June of this year, they immediately noticed a long list of issues.

The four-bedroom home is situated in Wellinborough, Northamptonshire, on the opulent Wendel View estate.

The couple was horrified by the condition of the house after getting the keys to their ideal home, so they promptly made a “snag list” of problems that needed to be fixed right away.

A falling wall, cracks in each window, misaligned radiators, and “shoddy” craftsmanship were all on this list.

After five months, according to Mrs. Jaworska, a pharmaceutical consultant, the issues still haven’t been rectified despite several calls to the home builder.

The cancer-stricken 50-year-old said: “We moved into the house because we needed more room and we thought it would be our lifelong home.

We entered the house via the entrance, and it seemed like we had moved into an outdated home that required work.

My first response was to start crying. I started crying and became quite unhappy.

Since then, I’ve had several nights of insomnia, and my health has become worse.

“I am now receiving chemotherapy, and all this stress is not helping,” she said, “so it’s just been a really stressful and draining process.”

Mrs. Jaworska said that the pair is only utilizing one of the four bedrooms since there is still work to be done and that they have not been able to unpack completely.

“After moving into the house, we completed the new build property survey form and provided input on the issues and our level of dissatisfaction.

We estimated that the home had more than 250 issues. There were issues wherever you turned, including crooked radiators, protruding walls, and improperly installed electrics. The list of problems simply kept growing.

The spot lights protruded from the ceilings, the stair bannisters had saw marks, and the fittings were surrounded by holes and gaps.

Many things have to be let go of.

I’m quite worn out, and the stress is doing absolutely nothing for my cancer or the treatment.

One of the primary problems the couple of 10 years discovered was that one of the property’s outer walls was crooked and needed to be partially torn down and rebuilt.

The couple had to have the walls replastered, the bathroom furnishings and front door replaced, and the lawn resurfaced after moving in.

Because the lock is broken and the improper seal was applied around the door frame, the hallway is continually chilly and drafty, and the couple is unable to even use their front door.

‘We spent around £30,000 in extras for this property, which included having an expensive kitchen built,’ said Damian, 35, who also works in the pharmaceutical industry.

There were over 250 “issues” in the collection. The pair worries that they won’t be addressed before winter.

All of the kitchen cabinets have been renovated, but they were not placed correctly, so they are all crooked.

The refrigerator door also doesn’t open and shut properly.

“For the first two days we lived here,” the carpets were so dirty, they caused Nadia to have an asthma attack.

The pair now worries that the problems won’t be remedied before winter.

Christmas is a significant holiday for us, Nadia, who has two adult children, said.

We begin cleaning up the home and invite folks over early, and I don’t think I can handle this.

“I’m ashamed right now to even have my neighbors over to my home.”

“I’ve had to take time off work so that I can be here for folks when they claim they’ll come solve some of the issues,”

They don’t seem to realize the extent to which the circumstance is harming not just my physical health but also my marital life and my professional life.

“I’m afraid my 76-year-old mother-in-law won’t be able to walk about the home comfortably, so she can’t come and stay with us,” my wife said.

‘We are saddened that a customer at our Wendel View development has expressed difficulties with her property, particularly after getting outstanding feedback from other homeowners,’ a spokeswoman for David Wilson Homes South Midlands said.

Client satisfaction is our first focus as a five-star home builder, and we are collaborating closely with the customer to find solutions, including fixing any kitchen flaws and replacing the carpets.

We will continue to communicate with them often to go through any unresolved concerns.
