The health recovery of Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, founder of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), has precipitated a review of his overseas scholarship programs.

The minister, who suffered health scares twice in two years due to stress, has stated that he plans to implement some changes to avoid such incidents in the future.

The Genesis of Change: Recent Health Concerns

Chinyere recently spent some time in the hospital following a collapse at an airport.

This incident, as he described in a Facebook post, was a clear sign to him that he was overburdening himself with stress.

In 2022 and 2023, he had collapses that required urgent medical intervention, with the latter incident occurring at Lagos airport when he was on his way to consult his doctor regarding changes in his physical condition.

Alteration in Scholarship Conditions: Learning from Past Experiences

The decision to re-evaluate the terms of his overseas scholarships has arisen shortly after a dispute with a group of former security guards, the Happie Boys, who were scholarship recipients sent to Cyprus.

Chinyere was accused by the group of leaving them unsupported, to which he responded that he had to halt financial aid due to the increasing exchange rate between the Naira and the dollar.

New Policy Directives: Shift in Empowerment Programs

In an effort to prevent similar incidents in the future, Chinyere has declared some new policies regarding his empowerment programs.

He stated that henceforth, those benefiting from overseas scholarships will only have their accommodation paid for the first month.

This is a departure from the previous policy, where rent was covered for nearly a year for the 300 individuals he sent to Dubai.

In addition, the cleric has removed the provision of feeding money for the beneficiaries.

Independence for Beneficiaries

Chinyere’s new policies signal a push for self-sufficiency among scholarship recipients once they arrive overseas.

The adjustments he has put in place serve as a clarion call for potential beneficiaries to seize the opportunity to work hard and fend for themselves once they get abroad.

The Apostle maintains his commitment to empowering lives, but with an emphasis on instilling a sense of responsibility and independence among beneficiaries.
