Nollywood actor Uche Maduagwu has expressed his opinion on the recently announced policy by the federal government regarding the acquisition of Proof of Ownership Certificate (POC) for vehicles.
Details of the New Policy
The Ministry of Transportation, through its Permanent Secretary, Engr AbdulHafiz Toriola, unveiled the new policy at a press conference in Lagos.
The certificate requirement will come into effect in Lagos State in July and will need to be renewed annually.
Previously, Nigerians only obtained a Proof of Ownership when purchasing a used vehicle or changing the engine of their vehicle.
Scope of the Policy
Engr AbdulHafiz Toriola explained that the Proof of Ownership Certificate policy will apply to all categories of vehicles, including motorcycles, tricycles, mini vehicles, saloon cars, trucks, articulated vehicles, and others used for transportation purposes.
The certificates will contain important information such as the vehicle’s registration details, license number plate, model, year of manufacture, owner’s name, and address.
Implementation and Cost
The policy is expected to be implemented nationwide, with each vehicle owner required to pay a minimum fee of N1,000 to obtain the Proof of Ownership Certificate.
Uche Maduagwu’s Reaction
In response to the new policy, Uche Maduagwu, a controversial actor, expressed his views through the comment section of an Instagram blog.
He stated that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, would never impose such a fee on the people.
