The Aareonakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, has expressed his approval of the policy decisions taken by President Bola Tinubu, stating that he believes the President has started off on the right track.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, Adams commended Tinubu for demonstrating his control over the policy direction of his administration.
One of the moves that impressed Adams was the appointment of the Service Chiefs, which he interpreted as Tinubu’s desire to minimize the importance of federal character and his willingness to work with individuals from all six geo-political zones of the country.
Optimistic Expectations and Reforms
Adams emphasized that President Tinubu’s initiatives since assuming office on May 29 as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria have demonstrated his commitment to serving the people.
Adams praised the President’s various reform measures and expressed his belief that Nigerians are watching with great expectations.
Stipend Allocation and Revenue Generation
In the statement, Adams proposed a stipend allocation ratio of 65/35, with 65% going to unemployed Nigerians and 35% for children between the ages of one and 18, senior citizens above the age of 65 who are not on pension, and physically-challenged individuals.
To generate the necessary funds, Adams suggested imposing a special tax on Multinational Companies and other investors in Nigeria.
He also proposed the establishment of a Special Revenue Generation Committee to devise the modalities for this initiative.
Adams argued that such an approach would reduce crime and insecurity in the country.
Tackling Illegal Mining and Economic Sabotage
Adams called for the empowerment of the Special Revenue Generation Committee to address the issue of illegal mining, particularly the involvement of foreigners supported by unpatriotic Nigerians.
He stressed the need for forceful action and legal sanctions against those perpetrating economic sabotage, as curbing illegal mining could generate billions of dollars annually, which could be effectively utilized to overcome the major challenges faced by Nigeria.
Education Reforms and Police Restructuring
Adams urged state governments to support the new education loan for tertiary institutions and ensure that education is accessible at sub-national levels.
He also appealed to Tinubu’s government to collaborate with the National Assembly in implementing comprehensive police reforms, aiming to reduce insecurity and crime across the country.
Border Control and Tariff Adjustment
Addressing border control, Adams suggested the opening of land borders with effective security measures to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants and goods.
He further called for efforts to reduce high tariffs imposed on imported goods, particularly vehicles entering the country through land borders.
Adams emphasized the importance of encouraging manufacturers to import raw materials not produced domestically by establishing reasonable import tariffs.
Combatting Oil Theft and Strengthening the Nigerian Currency
Adams urged President Tinubu to develop an action plan to combat oil theft, which has been draining substantial resources.
He proposed the creation of a special tribunal on oil theft to prosecute those involved in economic sabotage.
Additionally, he emphasized the need to curb round-tripping, a practice that negatively impacts the Nigerian currency, and called on the federal government to strengthen the currency and enhance foreign exchange control in the country.
