A 79-year-old pensioner is arrested for murdering a 50-year-old woman at home

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the shooting death of a woman in her Wirral, Merseyside, home.

Sunday around 1:45 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to a home in Moreton, Merseyside, after a woman in her 50s was discovered inside.

She was pronounced dead at the scene with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the police.

A 79-year-old guy who was acquainted with the victim was detained on suspicion of murder and remains in detention pending interrogation.

The property on Meadowbank Road has been cordoned off, and officials have been providing locals with reassurance.

Additionally, forensic testing, CCTV, and house-to-house investigations are being conducted in the region.

Merseyside Police Chief Inspector Derek Riley stated, “Although a man has been arrested in connection with the tragic murder of this woman in Moreton, our investigation is still in its earliest stages and inquiries into the incident are still underway in the area.”

“Anyone who was in the vicinity of Meadowbank Road in the wee hours of this morning and witnessed or heard anything, or who believes they captured something relevant on their doorbell camera or dashcam, please contact us immediately.
