70-year-old British senior ‘crushes a local man while reversing’ in Thailand

A 70-year-old British retiree kills a Thai man while reversing a pickup truck near a Thai beach.

70-year-old Stephen Peter Hobbs from Newport was reportedly the truck’s driver.

On August 4, according to witnesses, his vehicle unexpectedly reversed in Rayong province.

According to witnesses, the British driver collided with four motorcycles and crushed two men.

Niran Pramuan, 53, died at the scene, while Chanasak, 32, sustained critical injuries but survived.

A British retiree was detained for reportedly crashing his automobile in Thailand while under the influence of alcohol, killing a local and wounding another.

Stephen Peter Hobbs, 70, of Newport, was reportedly parked his pickup truck in front of the beach before sundown on August 4 in Rayong province when his vehicle suddenly reversed.

According to eyewitnesses, the British driver collided with four motorcycles and pinned two individuals against a light. Niran Pramuan, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Chanasak, 32, sustained critical injuries but survived.

The guys were sent to a hospital in Rayong, while the British national was detained for interrogation.

Lieutenant Colonel Nattawat Ngobudda stated, ‘According to locals, Stephen is a frequent drinker and is frequently found intoxicated in the area. According to them, the foreigner occasionally drives in the incorrect lane.

On the side of the road, police and rescue team paramedics discovered an overturned vehicle while Mr. Hobbs appeared weak in the driver’s seat.

Mr. Hobbs was rescued from the wreckage by a volunteer who administered first aid at the spot. Four rescuers extricated the elderly man from the truck.

Officers also performed CPR on those injured, including Nirun, who was critical after the collision and did not survive.

Another injured Chanasak was transported to the hospital in Rayong in critical condition.

A first responder was also captured on camera administering CPR to a man wearing a neck brace, who was likely one of the two individuals struck by the vehicle.

Around the event, Mr. Hobbs had parked his pickup truck at a seaside parking lot before dark, according to eyewitness accounts.

However, the vehicle abruptly reversed, slamming the bystanders who were behind it into a post.

The car then proceeded forward and collided with other vehicles in the parking lot.

Lieutenant Colonel Nattawat remarked, “Damages will be assessed at the scene.” We will pursue Stephen for causing the collision after he recovers from his injuries.

His blood alcohol level will be determined, and we will liaise with the embassy to notify his family.

Rayong province is located in the east of Thailand, approximately 130 kilometers from Bangkok, and is known for its national parks and beaches.
