26-year-old knifeman killed his friend because she rejected him

A knifeman who was rejected by his advances and killed his buddy by stabbing and strangling her before attempting to set fire to her corpse has been sentenced to at least 21 years in prison.

On July 31 of last year, Yordanos Brhane, 19, was stabbed several times at her house in Unett Street, Birmingham, by Halefom Weldeyohannes, 26.

After waiting for 30 minutes for police to arrive before being given inside, paramedics saw her laying in a pool of blood.

She suffered horrifying stab wounds to her face and neck before dying from strangulation, according to testimony given in court.

After Yordanos said that she had no romantic interest in him and thought of him “more as a brother,” Weldeyohanne unleashed the vicious assault.

Since they had both grown up in the same Eritrean hamlet, they had known one another for a long time. In an effort to live a better life, Ms. Brhane relocated to the UK.

In order to persuade Miss Brhane to allow him spend the night in a separate room, Weldeyohanne travelled to her residence.

I’m scared, Miss Brhane texted a flatmate at 2.31 am the next morning. Where have you been? based on the BBC.

She discovered Weldeyohannes strangling Miss Brhane after hearing her cry between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m. Weldeyohannes escaped as she dialled 911 for the cops.

Before departing the scene, he had stabbed Miss Brhane 15 times with a kitchen knife, choked her for up to 30 seconds, and attempted to set her corpse on fire.

Weldeyohanne was apprehended after police started a countrywide search and were able to find him the following day at a Stoke-on-Trent residence where he was visiting a friend.

It’s thought that he was attempting to gather money to leave the country when he went home to Sheffield to change clothes.

Weldeyohannes, of Sheffield’s downtown, entered a plea of guilty to murder on Monday and was sentenced to life in prison yesterday at Birmingham Crown Court.

Before being allowed to seek for parole, he must serve a minimum of 21 years.

When she was 15 years old, Miss Brhane escaped Eritrea and came to Europe in search of refuge. At first, she sought treatment for numerous ailments, including scabies, in Italy.

In 2020, the same year Weldeyohannes immigrated to the UK from Eritrea, she travelled to Birmingham.

The Own Office granted him permission to remain in the nation since he left his home country to evade conscription.

We still don’t know why Weldeohannes assaulted Yordanos, West Midlands Police Detective Inspector Jim Mahon stated after the incident.

We have learned from our research that she saw their connection as platonic while he desired a romantic one.

“This is terribly unfortunate for the family of Yordanos.” She left her homeland and arrived in the UK, where she was able to find employment and felt secure.

But a jealous, domineering, and violent guy who would not understand that she did not want to be in a relationship with him ended her life.

Only Weldeyohannes, who is now facing a lengthy prison sentence, is aware of all that occurred that morning.

The family of Yurdanos is still mourning her death, and our sympathies are with them.

In a statement, the family of Ms. Brhane said: “Yordanos was extremely nice, she respected others. Yordanos delighted in assisting others, especially those who were struggling.

For her, nothing was too much hassle.

“Yordanos” aspired to work with children someday, whether as a teacher, doctor, or other profession.

She emigrated to the UK in search of a better life, but was assassinated there instead.

I believe that Weldeyohannes’ admission of guilt spares us from hearing in detail the terrible things he did to my sister and how she suffered, but the anguish still remains and will never go away.

For the rest of our life, “We all live with it.”
