22 Cape Town areas will be without electricity AT SOME POINT from 9 to 15 May

There will be 32 electricity supply disruptions across the City of Cape Town metropolitan area during the week of Monday, 9 May, as the City continues its routine electrical infrastructure maintenance programme.

Maintenance is scheduled for the entire week from Monday to Sunday.

CAPE TOWN AREAS AFFECTED BY MAINTENANCE

On Friday, 6 May, the City of Cape Town felt the need to make a clarification, as they seem to have misinterpreted the articles that report on their own electrical infrastructure maintenance.

“Please note, some news channels are constantly implying this work leaves whole areas without power for a week.

“This is not true. This is normal maintenance to ensure reliable supply and happens across the metro in phases, for some hours at a time, depending on the maintenance work,” said the City.

As per usual, as has been the case for months on end, here are the affected areas alongside the expected start and end time of the power disruption:

The information in the table was correct at the time of publication.

As previously reported, the City of Cape Town said its routine maintenance of infrastructure is how it is able to ensure that residents have access to a reliable supply of electricity.

Residents are advised to switch off appliances at the wall socket ahead of the maintenance to reduce the potential damage that could be caused by power surges.

“We encourage residents to always double check on the City’s social media channels to see if their area will be affected by the regular electricity maintenance during the week.

“Where customers are affected by supply interruptions due to normal maintenance, they should receive a door-to-door notice ahead of the planned work,” said the City of Cape Town.
