1Magical telenovela ‘The River’ has reached its conclusion

The River, a telenovela on 1Magic, has concluded, the station stated, adding that the season finale will air on Monday.

Following the departures of fan favorites Hlomla Dandala, Lawrence Maleka, and Tango Ncetezo, this development has occurred. The show premiered in 2018 and aired over 1,200 episodes; its influence extended beyond South African boundaries.

The show has won 26 out of 31 South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) over the years.

Phathu Makwarela, a renowned producer at Tshedza Pictures, remarked that when they developed The River seven years ago, they desired to tell a story with a clear conclusion.

“Now that the show is in its sixth season, we feel it’s time to bring the story of these beloved characters to a close, on our own terms and while the audience still values the show,” Makwarela said.

According to the proverb, a good dancer always knows when to exit the stage, and The River has reached that moment.

Shirley Adonisi, director of local entertainment channels at M-Net, stated, “On behalf of M-local Net’s entertainment channels, we would like to thank the cast and crew of The River for five unforgettable years.

“Their hard work, passion, and brilliance have contributed to the success of the telenovela. The last season of the show will be its most epic ever. The drama will intensify, setting the stage for the ultimate conclusion.”

Throughout the years, the telenovela has provided a platform for many to shine while discovering new talent who went on to have successful careers.

Among them are Zenokuhle Maseko, Larona Moagi, Lunga Mofokeng, Thabiso Ramatshela, Jessica Sithole, and, more recently, Unathi Mkhize, Vuyo Biyela, and Tina Dlathu.

Thursday was also the last day for Lawrence Maleka’s character Zolani Dlamini.
