14 protesters killed by police in Madagascar over albino child abduction

In Madagascar, police opened fire on a mob of demonstrators who were upset over the abduction of an albino child, killing at least 14 and injuring 28 more.

The four suspects who were detained last week in connection with the kidnapping in the southeasterly town of Ikongo were being demanded to die by enraged residents.

Officers fired as they attempted to attack the police station, hitting many people.

Local politician Jean-Brunelle Razafintsiandraofa in the southeast African town of Ikongo told AFP that “the gendarmes… shot on the crowd.”

Nine individuals “died on the scene,” according to the local doctor Tango Oscar Toky, and five more passed away later in the hospital.

Many people in Madagascar believe albinos have supernatural abilities, and as a result, they sometimes abduct or hunt albinos for their body parts in an effort to bring them luck.

Some people also think that having intercourse with an albino lady can cure them of AIDS.
