$1.2 million in compensation has been given to children who trip over concrete, collide with poles, and get into fights at school.

Between February 2020 and November 2021, seven payments were made to Queensland schoolchildren.

A youngster who suffered a physical and mental impairment after falling off playground equipment received one of five settlements, four of which were labeled “student assault.”

A student who collided with a basketball pole was given the sixth lump payment.

A youngster who slipped and fell backwards onto concrete was given the seventh place prize.

According to papers obtained by the Courier Mail, a total of $1,254,611 in compensation was distributed over the course of the 21-month period.

The precise amount associated with each settlement is unknown, as is the severity of each injury.

In contrast, only $729,070 in compensation was given to wounded students during the same 21-month period a year prior, from February 2017 to November 2018.

Grace Grace, the minister of education for Queensland, endorsed monetary compensation, according to the publication.
She declared, “I fully agree that if it is determined that a student who is hurt at school should be reimbursed.”

According to the Education Department, parents who think their kids were injured at school as a result of carelessness could file a lawsuit against the agency.

However, certain injuries may happen accidentally and not as a result of the department’s negligence, in which case the department is not responsible for paying the wounded student’s medical bills, the statement read.

The dates in the cited document are settlement dates, not event dates, according to the department.
