An IT malfunction at Australia’s largest grocery chain has caused havoc among after-work consumers.
Several Woolworths’ Metro stores were unable to process customers’ grocery purchases on Thursday afternoon, and several stores were forced to close as a result.
It was believed that the grocery chain’s point-of-sale systems were malfunctioning, preventing many customers from completing their purchases.
Woolworths reported that around 30 locations across Australia are affected by the IT issue.
It was reported on social media that consumers at the chain’s Pyrmont location were unable to purchase anything and the store had to be closed to the public.
After 4 p.m., clients began to report IT issues on social media.
‘Wow. Australia-wide outage of Woolworths’s IT systems. “You cannot purchase anything,” a man tweeted at 4:18 p.m.
Woolworths affirmed the departure
‘We are now having an IT issue that is affecting the checkouts in roughly 30 shops. The majority of these are located in our Metro-branded stores,’ a Woolworths representative told Daily Mail Australia.
We are working as rapidly as possible to remedy the issue. No problems have been reported with the Woolworths website.
