The expectant wife of a police officer killed in the line of duty stated on Saturday that he will leave behind a “miracle,” as she is carrying his child.
“I’ve learned that God works in mysterious ways,” said Dominique Luzuriaga Rivera at a memorial service commemorating the one-year anniversary of the fatal shooting of her husband Jason Rivera and fellow officer Wilbert Mora.
“Through sadness and suffering, rebirth is possible. I am pleased to announce that Jason and I are expecting a miracle in the spring.”
St. Patrick’s Cathedral embraced the news with thundering cheers and a standing ovation, giving some joy to an otherwise mournful day.
“Although Jason will not be physically present to witness and experience our miracle, I know he will always be here in spirit watching over, protecting, and loving us,” she continued.
“I hope that my unborn child will get to know their father with time, guidance, and love, and that as a family we will never forget Jason’s tremendous legacy of success and ultimate sacrifice.”

According to sources, Luzuriaga Rivera followed the example of Sanny Liu, who gave birth to her daughter Angelina in 2017 via artificial insemination two and a half years after the death of her husband, NYPD officer Wenjian Liu.
Earlier, Mayor Adams paid tribute to the two young police officers killed in Harlem while responding to a report of domestic violence.
Adams stated, “We honor two good men who are heroes of our city.”
On January 21, 2022, Rivera, 22, and Mora, 27, were fatally shot by a shooter who ambushed them on a domestic call in a Harlem apartment.
Rivera died on the day of the shooting, while Mora succumbed to his wounds four days later. Both were elevated to detective posthumously.
Rivera, 22, was tragically shot alongside another cop on January 21, 2022, when they were attacked by a shooter during a domestic incident in a Harlem apartment.
The mayor also reflected on his love for his 27-year-old son, Jordan Coleman, telling the families of the deceased officers, “I cannot fathom the pain of losing these two men.”
“Our hearts grieve with you, and 365 days do not permit us to see the pain subside,” he continued. We cannot bear your suffering; we are here for you.
A large number of NYPD officials, including Commissioner Keechant Sewell, also attended the mass.
Adams was on the job for less than a month when two police officers were murdered in New York City last year, and he cited the tragic killing as evidence for why his illegal-gun enforcement strategy is desperately needed in the city.
