During a very unimpressive awards show on Tuesday, Jerrod Carmichael, the presenter of the Golden Globes, made a joke about the late Whitney Houston.

Carmichael, 35, addressed the crowd and stated, “Coming to you from the Beverly Hills Place, the hotel that murdered Whitney Houston.

The emcee then began his introductory speech, making a not-so-subtle dig at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s much criticized lack of diversity by claiming that the only reason he was chosen as host was because he was black.

Houston passed away in 2012 at the age of 48 after unintentionally suffocating in a hotel bathtub. A coroner eventually determined that the singer’s death was caused by heart problems and cocaine use.

Users on Twitter did not want to laugh along with Carmichael’s gags.

Okay, that joke about Whitney Houston was… yikes. Not terrible,” one viewer tweeted.

“I really hated that Whitney Houston joke. Another person said, “That was extremely rude and inconsiderate to her.

“The hotel where Whitney Houston was killed? Please do not use this person again. Horrible host,” a third individual wrote.

The comedian also poked fun of other famous people including Kanye West’s recent antisemitic statements.

In reference to the Oscar-nominated movie “The Fabelmans,” Carmichael remarked, “I watched it with Kanye, and it changed everything for him. That demonstrates your talent.
