Last week, a Virginia man was taken into custody for pointing a laser at a police helicopter that was involved in a search for a suspect who had fled from the authorities.

The Fairfax County police were conducting the search along with the Virginia State Police around 11:25 p.m on March 10th.

During the search, the helicopter crew noticed someone aiming a laser pointer at them from an apartment complex.

To investigate, the helicopter crew used the FLIR system and found out that the laser had come from an apartment with a balcony located in the 9200 block of Ashland Woods Lane.

After conducting a thorough investigation, the Special Investigation Division detectives of the Fairfax County identified the 25-year-old man responsible for the laser beam.

The person was arrested and charged with interference with the operation of an aircraft, which is considered a class 1 misdemeanor in the Commonwealth.

In a statement, the Fairfax County police reminded the public that pointing a laser at any aircraft is not only illegal, but also a dangerous and foolish act, especially when the aircraft in question is a police helicopter.

The man arrested for pointing the laser at the helicopter was released on a secure bond after being taken into custody. His identity was not disclosed by the police.
