Vegan mother, 39, is found guilty of murdering her 18-month-old son Ezra who died in 2019 from complications caused by malnutrition

An 18-month-old boy who weighed only 17 pounds when he passed away in 2019 after a brief life being fed only fruit, vegetables, and breastmilk has been judged guilty of murder by his vegan mother.

After a week-long trial, Sheila O’Leary, 39, was found guilty by a jury in Cape Coral, Florida, on Tuesday.

She will be sentenced on July 25 and now faces a life sentence.

2019 saw the death of her son Ezra from complications brought on by malnutrition.

When he passed away in September 2019, medical professionals discovered he hadn’t eaten for a week.

Ezra stopped breathing, and Sheila and her husband—who has also been charged with murder and is awaiting trial—called 911.

The toddler was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

The older three children of the marriage were also evaluated.

After Ezra’s cause of death was made public in December 2019, the two were charged.

There have never been any images made public that reveal the child’s condition just before he passed away.

However, the prosecution at Sheila’s trial painted a picture of a malnourished infant who wept nonstop.

‘She chose to disregard his cries. She didn’t need a scale to see his bones.

‘She didn’t need a scale to hear his cry,’ Assistant State Attorney Sara Miller said.
