UPDATE: 2022 FCT Area Council Election

Today’s 2022 FCT area council election has a record of fourteen political parties competing for six chairmanship and sixty-two councillorship seats in the FCT.

The Political parties include the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Allied People’s Movement (APM), Labour Party (LP) and African Action Congress (AAC).

Ahead of the election, the participating political parties have signed a peace accord to assure INEC and the nation of their desire for a successful and violent-free election process.

Today’s election will hold in sixty-eight wards across Kwali, Kuje, Gwagwalada, Abaji, Bwari and Abuja municipal area council (AMAC).

According to INEC, the number of registered voters in the FCT are 1,373,492, while the number of polling units is 2,882.

Compared to Nigeria’s thirty-six States, Abuja has no elected governor but a Minister whom the President appoints.

Also, in the thirty-six states where State electoral commissions conduct the council elections, elections in Abuja are conducted by INEC.
