UK Minister for Latin America, Vicky Ford, meets Guatemalan Foreign Minister, Mario Bucaro virtually today

Vicky Ford, the UK’s Latin America Minister, met online with Mario Bucaro, Guatemala’s Foreign Minister, today.

The Ministers reiterated the commitment of the United Kingdom and Guatemala to promote mutual prosperity and world peace.

They talked about how Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has wreaked havoc on food and energy prices. Minister Ford praised Guatemala’s leadership for criticizing Russia’s actions and committing to multilateral engagement to end the conflict.

Minister Ford highlighted the United Kingdom’s desire to further cooperation with Guatemala in areas such as poverty reduction, climate change, and attracting new investment, while emphasizing the importance of Guatemalan efforts to combat corruption.

Finally, Ministers decided to keep working to boost global economic security by reducing economic reliance on aggressors and strengthening trade and investment between allies and partners like the United Kingdom and Guatemala.
