UAE hosts virtual signing ceremony to commemorate establishment of UAE-Canada Joint Committee

ABU DHABI, 7th July, 2022 (WAM) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) hosted a virtual signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Establishing a Joint Committee between the UAE and Canada.

The meeting was chaired by Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Rob Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.

Fahad Saeed Al Raqbani, UAE Ambassador to Canada, and Marcy Grossman, Ambassador of Canada to the UAE, also witnessed the ceremony.

Commenting on the MoU, Fahad Al Raqbani remarked, “The UAE and Canada have long been united in pursuing economic development and political cooperation as pillars of our bilateral relationship. Through the UAE-Canada Joint Committee, our two countries will advance efforts to achieve greater prosperity and exchange between our peoples. We welcome this important step in UAE-Canada relations and look forward to the outcomes of such cooperation.”

For her part, Marcy Grossman highlighted, “I am thrilled to see the establishment of the UAE-Canada Joint Committee for Cooperation. This agreement reflects our increasing economic partnership and our cooperation in addressing global challenges such as climate change, women’s empowerment, peace, and security. Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in our relationship as we move forward together to build a better and safer world.”

At the end of the meeting, the two sides highlighted their mutual keenness to reinforce overall bilateral cooperation and hold the first round of the Joint Committee between the UAE and Canada.
