Trail runner dies after falling off the edge of a waterfall

On the morning of Monday, February 6th, emergency services reacted to reports of a trail runner falling from a height at a Durban sports complex.

Additionally, a woman suffered significant injuries after falling 10 meters while hiking Lion’s head.

Upon their arrival, paramedics reported that a man who had been trail running had apparently slipped and fallen over the edge of a waterfall.

The workers of the facility alerted Medi Response and deployed the search and rescue unit and paramedics to the scene.

INCLUDING A TWO-YEAR-OLD, other hikers were airlifted in separate situations.

The staff decided upon arrival that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.

Together with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Metro Police search and rescue units, they located and turned over the deceased’s body to local authorities.
In a second incident on Sunday, 5 February, rescuers flew two men and a woman off a mountain in Stellenbosch after they were injured while hiking.

After receiving a call for help, the AMS Medical Helicopter encountered ER24 paramedics at a nearby farm.

Individually, the helicopter transported the injured patients from the mountain to the waiting medical personnel.

Examined by paramedics, the individuals were found to have several severe fractures.

They supplied pain medicine and took the patients to Mediclinic Stellenbosch for further care.
