Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has responded to the verdict of the Supreme Court regarding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s lawsuit challenging the alleged double nomination of the vice president-elect, Kashim Shettima.
The Apex court upheld the decisions of the lower courts, stating that the PDP lacked the locus standi to initiate the case.
PDP’s Role as a Meddlesome Interloper
Justice Adamu Jauro, who delivered the judgment, deemed the PDP’s involvement as that of a meddlesome interloper and a busybody, emphasizing that the matter was an internal affair of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Supreme Court dismissed the suit for lacking merit and awarded Two Million Naira against the PDP.
Accepting the Verdict and Praying for President-elect Tinubu
Reno Omokri urged Nigerians to respect the verdict of the Supreme Court, not necessarily because it is correct, but because it is final.
He expressed his hope that God would grant wisdom to President-elect Bola Tinubu in governing Nigeria until the final determination of the PDP’s main suit, which he hopes the party will win.
Omokri emphasized that regardless of the outcome, he will continue to wish the country and its leaders well, despite his disappointment.
Background on the Lawsuit and Alleged Double Nomination
The PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, filed the suit seeking the disqualification of Tinubu and Shettima from the election due to their alleged double nomination.
The opposition party argued that this violated electoral laws.
The appeal was based on the contention that the appellate court erred in dismissing their appeal and upholding the trial court’s judgment that deemed the suit incompetent and lacking in merit.
Allegations of Law Breach by the APC
The PDP asserted that the APC breached the law by nominating Shettima as the senatorial candidate for Borno Central while also selecting him as a vice-presidential candidate for the party, hence violating electoral regulations.
