The Supreme Court recently ruled on the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which alleged the double nomination of Shettima.

According to an earlier report by Naija News, the PDP claimed that Shettima’s nomination as Tinubu’s running mate violated several provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, including Sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2).

The opposition party argued that Shettima’s simultaneous nomination for the vice-presidential position and Borno central senatorial seat was a violation of the law.

However, the five-member panel of the Supreme Court, during its sitting on Friday, concluded that the PDP lacked the locus standi, or legal standing, to institute the suit.

The court ruled in favor of dismissing the case.

In response to the court’s decision, Inibehe Effiong took to his official Twitter handle to express his views.

He tweeted that he had predicted the outcome of the case three days prior and commended the apex court for deciding the appeal against the PDP based on the grounds of lack of locus standi.

Effiong stated, “I said three days ago the outcome was predictable and that the Supreme Court will decide the appeal against the PDP on ground of lack of locus standi.

That is exactly what the apex court has done this morning.”
