The lawsuit was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against Shettima, alleging double nomination of the party’s Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima.

The PDP claimed that Shettima’s nomination as Tinubu’s running mate violated several provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, including sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2).

The opposition party argued that Shettima’s simultaneous nominations for the position of vice-president and Borno central senatorial seat were in contravention of the law.

However, the five-member panel of the Supreme Court, in its ruling on Friday, stated that the PDP did not have the right to initiate the lawsuit and subsequently dismissed the challenge.
