A small country town in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales has been gripped by a disturbing ‘fight club’ culture, where teenagers stage violent street fights and share footage of the fights on social media.
Even primary school-aged children and parents have been caught taking part in these sickening activities in Casino, NSW.
Videos of teenage girls exchanging blows while their friends cheer them on, and teenagers being pulled by their hair have been circulating on social media.
In one video, a pair of girls are seen brawling on the grass while a crowd watches, films, and laughs.
The behavior has been condemned by NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Gavin Wood, who called out the parents who were caught watching the fights.
Assistant Commissioner Wood said that the fights were not solely a police issue, but also a community one.
He stressed the need for everyone to take responsibility and buy into addressing the problem.
Residents have taken matters into their own hands and have been keeping accounts of criminal behaviour on a local Facebook page called Casino Crime Reports.
Richmond Valley Council Deputy Mayor Stephen Morrissey acknowledged that the town has a problem with youth crime, and the situation is becoming worse.
He believes that the matter has grown out of control since the area was hit by catastrophic floods in 2022, which resulted in thousands of residents becoming homeless and a final insurance loss estimated at $5.7 billion, making it the most expensive disaster in Australian history.
Longtime residents, who preferred to remain anonymous, have said that violent teenagers have taken over their once lovely town.
The situation has become so alarming that residents are calling for action from the authorities and the wider community.
