Shadow, police K-9, retires from service due to illness

A tearful farewell was given by his fellow officers to a Louisiana police K-9 who assisted in drug interdiction and criminal apprehending.

For almost eight years, Shadow served as a K-9 for the Shreveport Police Department, working with handler Corporal Andrew Presley.

According to a department statement posted on Facebook, the police dog was forced to retire owing to health problems.

Although he’s spent the previous five years in retirement with a human family, it was just learned that he had a terminal condition.

Shadow’s coworkers wanted to recognise him for this reason while they still had the chance.

On July 12, the University Veterinary Hospital honoured him with a stroll.

To honour Shadow, former coworkers and other police officers from neighbouring communities attended.

Although Shadow has now passed away, a private funeral will be held in his honour at the department’s K9 cemetery.

A true hero crossed the rainbow bridge into rest today, according to a support group for the city’s K9 team.

Due to medical issues, K9 Shadow gently went away in the company of his handler Cpl A. Presley and family.

The honour walk was being passed by when K9 Shadow, a genuine hero, a good boy, and a diligent worker, leaned up against everyone in the hallway.

The department requested that people remember the Shreveport Police K9 Unit in their prayers and thoughts in a statement. Well done, Shadow.
