The 2027 Asian Cup will be hosted by Saudi Arabia after India withdrew their candidacy.
Monday, the Asian Football Confederation announced that the All India Football Federation has withdrew from the host selection process. No explanation was provided.
The AFC’s executive committee had selected the proposals from India and Saudi Arabia in October, and the final choice was anticipated to be taken at a regional conference in February. Saudi Arabia is the sole remaining bidder to host the 2027 World Cup.
Qatar will host the 2023 Asian Cup after China withdrew as host. Qatar, which is now hosting the World Cup, has previously hosted the Asian Cup twice.
The Saudis began their World Cup campaign in Qatar with a dramatic 2-1 upset victory against Argentina, but failed to move to the round of 16 after consecutive losses to Poland and Mexico in Group C. To go to the quarterfinals, Argentina topped their group and defeated Australia in the Round of 16 to advance.
