SA is taking part in today’s BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) virtual meeting

As part of the ministry’s anti-corruption mandate, Chana Pilane-Majake, deputy minister of public service and administration, is taking part in today’s BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) virtual meeting.

The goal of the ACWG Ministerial meeting is to promote greater agreement on the BRICS anti-corruption agenda, exchange ideas and best practices for countering corruption, gain knowledge from the experience of international organizations, and make a positive contribution to the global anti-corruption movement.

Members of the meeting, which is currently being presided over by China, will be expected to adopt a Ministerial Declaration, in the creation of which South Africa took part, to demonstrate their commitment to combating corruption and to provide additional motivation for the BRICS nations’ individual and group anti-corruption initiatives.

The Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) has the authority to create anti-corruption guidelines and standards, coordinate the application of international anti-corruption treaties, and represent South Africa in the BRICS ACWG.

In order to effectively coordinate their approaches toward the most important challenges of the worldwide anti-corruption agenda and provide mutual support to their joint activities, SA joined the BRICS in 2010 and together with member countries founded the ACWG.

The BRICS member nations’ international cooperation on key issues, the improvement of methods for combating corruption, especially through collaboration on asset recovery, and mutual technical support are among the goals of the ACWG.
