At least two people were murdered in eastern Ukraine overnight as Russia resumed bombing after ending its brief reputed cease-fire, according to reports Sunday.

Despite the fact that Kremlin rockets continued to strike Ukrainian land, Russian President Vladimir Putin purportedly ordered a 36-hour ceasefire for Russian soldiers beginning Thursday and extending through Ukraine’s Orthodox Christmas on Saturday.

Ukraine has rejected the ceasefire, labeling it “hypocrisy” and suggesting that if Russian forces wished to delay the combat, they could simply withdraw.

According to sources, a 50-year-old man was slain in Kharkiv and another person was killed in Soledar, in the eastern Donetsk province, in nocturnal strikes.

Despite a purported ceasefire on the Russian side, Kremlin rockets continued to strike eastern Ukraine on Saturday, killing at least three and wounded dozens more, according to sources.

Meanwhile, Russia said on Sunday that it will continue what Putin has termed the “special military operation” he initiated against Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

Putin’s first deputy chief of staff, Sergei Kiriyenko, was quoted by the Russian state news agency Tass as saying, “The president’s (Putin) orders for the special military operation will still be carried out.”

Kiriyenko charged Ukrainian forces with violating the Christmas ceasefire in the country’s eastern region.
