Rooftop shooter kills six at July 4th parade in Chicago suburb

NEW YORK, 4th July, 2022 (WAM) — At least six people died and 24 were wounded in a shooting at a July Fourth parade in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, Reuters reported.

In a statement, Highland Park Police Commander Chris O’Neill said that the shooting took place ten minutes after the start of an American Independence Day parade, causing panic and chaos at the celebration site and prompting authorities to shut down the parade.

O’Neill confirmed that police and Homeland Security agents are still searching for the suspect, who likely fired on the festivities from a rooftop. He was described as a white male between the ages of 18 and 20, wearing a white and blue shirt.

In a press release, authorities revealed that evidence of a firearm was found from the scene, about 25 miles (about 40 kilometres) north of Chicago.
