Robert Chatterton Dickson established two schools in Narsingdi, Bangladesh

On September 21, 2022, Robert Chatterton Dickson, the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, opened two learning facilities in Narsingdi as part of the Educate the Most Disadvantaged Children (EMDC) initiative, which was financed by the British High Commission in Dhaka and carried out by UNICEF.

The program’s goal is to strengthen the educational chances for some of the most underprivileged children, particularly females, and to improve their basic learning.

By assisting out-of-school children who reside in difficult-to-reach places including urban slums, coastal regions, hill tracts, and marshes, the initiative directly contributes to resolving Bangladesh’s educational issues.

A total of 1,300 learning centres will provide multi-grade, multi-level education to kids who had never attended school before and catch-up education to kids who dropped out of school or were in danger of doing so because of the COVID epidemic.

According to Robert Chatterton Dickson, the British High Commissioner, “Education is a vital human right and essential for the growth of a nation.

In order to minimise the learning gap and aid in the recovery process after the COVID-19 epidemic, the UK government is glad to be able to provide these adaptable learning options for out-of-school children. These kids will complete their programme and then be enrolled in regular public schools to finish their education.

According to Mr. Sheldon Yett, the UNICEF representative in Bangladesh, who also toured the learning centres, “Millions of children in Bangladesh remain out of school despite increasing enrollment of both girls and boys. UNICEF’s efforts to provide children who would otherwise lose out on a decent education are strengthened by our relationship with the UK government.

The Educate the Most Disadvantaged Children (EMDC) initiative in Bangladesh, which will be executed over eight years, has received a 38.5 million pound promise from the UK government.

In Bangladesh, the initiative intends to educate 360,000 marginalised children, including approximately 210,000 females.
