In the aftermath of the Autumn Statement’s tax increase, Rishi Sunak’s support among grassroots Conservatives has declined, a new survey reveals.

He fared better than Jeremy Hunt, however. The Chancellor is the only senior Cabinet minister with a net ranking of -9.9 or below.

Immigration minister Robert Jenrick, who has spearheaded the majority of the government’s response to asylum seeker Channel crossings and congestion at the Manston migrant processing station, ranked worst with a -25.4 approval rating.

In contrast, his employer Suella Braverman, who was criticized for being low-key during the crisis, witnessed a surge in popularity.

In October, the Prime Minister was ranked fifth from the top in ConHome’s Cabinet rankings; in November, he now ranks sixth from the bottom.

The survey, by website ConservativeHome, gives the Prime Minister a net satisfaction rating of +9.0 placing him in the bottom six of the website’s Cabinet performance league table and signalling that any honeymoon period for the new leader looks to be over.

Long a favorite of party members, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace leads the list with an approval rating of +83.2, followed by International Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch at +63.2.

According to the ConservativeHome website, the average league table score is a record-low 21.7.

ConservativeHome editor Paul Goodman stated that it followed equally low scores for the Cabinet of Liz Truss and the closing days of the government of Boris Johnson.

Mr. Goodman stated on the website, “The panel has plainly felt that the Government, in its different expressions, has not been doing effectively for some time.”
