A prominent New York Republican charged Attorney General Letitia James with bigotry against whites.

The county executive of Rensselaer County, Steven McLaughlin, told The Post, “It seems she targets white men and white Republicans in particular.” “Being black does not exempt you from being racist. It is possible to be black and racist, just as it is possible to be white and racist.

McLaughlin, who is Caucasian, made the accusation this week during a victory lap interview following his acquittal of corruption charges brought against him by James during a multiyear investigation.

The Attorney General alleged that McLaughlin, 59, fraudulently withdrew $5,000 from a 2017 campaign account to pay off a personal debt. In December 2021, he was charged with grand theft, which could have landed him in prison for seven years. McLaughlin asserted that the payments were entirely legal, and the jury agreed, acquitting him on January 25 after less than an hour of deliberation.

“It was truly a disgraceful chapter in the life of Tish James,” McLaughlin said, adding that he is considering legal action against the Attorney General for breaching “my civil rights.”

McLaughlin, a former state assemblyman who was elected county executive in 2017, stated that James targeted him due to his lengthy and contentious history with the state’s most prominent Democrats. McLaughlin famously compared former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

The Rensselaer administrator boasted about his choice to disobey Governor Cuomo’s controversial directive requiring care facilities to accept covid-positive patients.

Steven McLaughlin, the executive of Rensselaer County, claims he was targeted by James’ administration due to his white skin color.

“What was occurring there was so obviously evil,” McLaughlin remarked. “I have been proven right over and over. You have lost at least 10,000 older citizens due to his activities.”
