Reason ‘touched’ by AKA’s amapiano line

When it comes to lyrics in the hip hop game, they are usually overanalyzed, and the simplest things can frequently be interpreted as more profound than they should be.

AKA is back with a new song titled “Lemons (Lemonade)” that features Nasty C.

Several lines on the new song have generated a stir. One line has been seen as a jab at Cassper Nyovest, AKA’s longstanding nemesis.

“People claim hip hop is dead, but that’s rubbish; thank God they’ve shown their true colors and shifted to piano like vultures,” he says.

Rapper Reason came to Twitter to express his displeasure with the statement, calling it “problematic.”

“Hearing @akaworldwide say, ‘Thank God they revealed their true colors/ They switched up the piano like vultures,’ is troubling for me,” he tweeted.

He went on to note that hearing AKA say this on an Afrobeats song makes him question who he is referring to.

“Especially when said by a hip hop artist on an Afro beat tune. Who exactly are you talking about? Give me instances, “He queried.

Hearing @akaworldwide remark “Thank God they revealed their true colors/Changed up the piano like vultures” is troubling to me.

Especially when said by a hip hop musician on an Afro beat record. Who exactly are you talking about?

Give me examples.

The rapper, also known as Sizwe Alakine, asked AKA if he believes 031 Choppa, Big Zulu, Costa, Blxckie, Reason, and Kwesta to be “vultures” because “they are all hip hop musicians who make (ama)piano.”

031 Choppa, Big Zulu, Costa, Blxckie, Reason, and Kwesta are all paino-making hip hop musicians.

Does this line imply that @akaworldwide views us all as vultures for this?

Like?

My nigga, you make Afro Beat tunes.

Why are you the only person who can switch genres?

Fans complained that Reason was choosing violence with his statement, but he responded that the “creative, artist, and rapper” in him was “touched” and required clarification.

I’m sorry. But I was moved by my artistic, musical, and RAPPER nature. I simply require clarity.

Who is he referring to? https://t.co/Vf2vA7WxTG

Reason may have been “moved” by AKA’s verse, but it does not appear that Supa Mega is paying him any mind.

Black Coffee tweeted a picture of himself travelling through an airport with the comment “guess I’m a Zai zai,” which is also a line from Nasty C’s verse on “Lemons (Lemonade)”

Ha!! Epic. https://t.co/sZ6Suv9leN
