Rastafarian’s tribute to Mampintsha’s mother, Zama Gumede

Zamanguni Gumede, the mother of Mampintsha, died of a stroke on January 16 and was laid to rest on January 20. The renowned painter Rasta the Artist painted a portrait of Gumede as a homage to her.

The mother of Mampintsha has a lengthy history of illness. When her son, a kwaito singer, died in December of last year, the 65-year-health old’s rapidly deteriorated. Mampintsha died at the Durdoc Hospital following a second mild stroke. The next month, Mampintsha’s mother passed away at Wentworth Hospital in Durban, joining her son in the afterlife.

Rasta the Artist was spotted at Mampintsha’s burial, when he created a portrait of the deceased kwaito singer. He promised to continue listening to the deceased member of Big Nuz’s music even after his passing.

According to Zimjola, Gumede was laid to rest by volunteers from Icebolethu Funerals at Red Hill Cemetery in Durban.

On Saturday, 21 January, the Zimbabwean artist shared his most recent painting of Mampintsha’s mother on his web platforms with the comment,

“Farewell mam ZamaNguni Cynthia Gumede Zuma. MAM of the defunct Manda Mampintsha Maphumulo and Gogo ka Sponge… Kubuhlungu [It hurts]. @L KwaMashu Community Hall, Durban.”

Users on the Internet were thrilled with Rasta’s most recent painting and praised him he done an excellent job.
