Priti Patel has signed a major deal to speed up deportations of foreign criminals to Nigeria

A significant agreement was made by Priti Patel to hasten the deportation of foreign offenders to Nigeria.

Offenders will acquire new travel documents within five working days thanks to the Home Secretary’s agreement. It happened as 13 Nigerians were expelled yesterday on a Home Office jet.

They comprised five immigration offenders, such as those who had overstayed UK visas, and eight foreign criminals.

Three felons and five immigration offenders were among the other eight Ghanaians who were expelled. According to a Home Office official, the criminals who were deported received total prison sentences of more than 64 years.

Left-wing organizations and demonstrators contested the flight’s legality on Wednesday at the Derwentside Immigration Center in County Durham. According to what is known, a grandma was removed from the airplane.

Campaigners asserted that people expected to board had legal rights against deportation, including those related to sexual orientation discrimination, modern slavery, the right to a family life, and religious persecution.

One of the passengers on the flight, a Nigerian asylum seeker who entered the nation in 2017, claimed he was being persecuted for being gay back home.

Adeniyi Raji, 48, told the Guardian that he had been threatened with death on social media and that he had been fired when his wife discovered him having an affair.

The maximum sentence for homosexual behavior in Nigeria is 14 years in prison.

He filed an appeal after an immigration tribunal denied his request for asylum, according to reports.

It is unknown if Mr. Raji was on board the aircraft.

‘It is an important development that the UK and Nigeria have signed an agreement to co-operate on migration issues, to tackle illegal migration and the huge threat it poses for both nations,’ Miss Patel said of the’memorandum of understanding’ (MoU) agreed with Nigeria.

The agreement will allow operations teams from both nations to pool their knowledge to combat illegal people smugglers who are accountable for a larger spectrum of criminal activity, prioritize profit over people, and jeopardize the security of our two nations.

To keep our streets and nation safer, “this historic deal will enhance the deportation of dangerous foreign criminals.”

According to a spokesman for the Home Office, she was scheduled to meet with Sarafa Tunji Isola, the Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK, yesterday THU to talk about their “increasing collaboration.”

Similar agreements have been reached by the Home Office with other countries like Serbia, Albania, and India.
