In his new bombshell-filled book, the Duke of Sussex recounts a “awkward moment” when Meghan Markle allegedly asked to borrow Kate Middleton’s lip gloss, which he referred to as “an American thing.”
“Amazed, Kate reached into her handbag and hesitantly extracted a small tube,” he wrote. “Meg placed some on her lips by squeezing some onto her finger. Kate frowned.
Harry, 38, added that the alleged incident, which he said occurred before to the 2018 Royal Foundation Forum appearance of the Sussexes and the Waleses, was something the couples “should have been able to laugh about,” but the press “sensed” it was “something bigger.”

Middleton was spotted applying the Rose Shimmer colour of the lip gloss, which comes in a squeeze tube, during Wimbledon in 2019, a rare instance of her primping being captured on camera.
She is not the first monarch to be a fan of Clarins cosmetics, as Queen Elizabeth reportedly commissioned the business to make a red lipstick hue to match her coronation robes
While Markle also visited Wimbledon in 2019, it is possible that she choose to stay with her own lipstick favorites; unlike royals, the former “Suits” actress was not required to keep quiet about her favorite cosmetics.
Fresh Sugar Lip Balm ($25) and Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk ($34) are among her particular favorites. The latter is also a favorite of Britney Spears.
Since she joined the royal family, Markle’s fashion and cosmetic choices have undoubtedly generated headlines, including the ripped Mother Tripper Ankle Fray Jeans ($278) she wore during her first public appearance with Prince Harry at the 2017 Invictus Games.
In “Spare,” Harry also highlighted the much-discussed denim, suggesting that the pants were palace-approved.
