President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to hold a meeting with opposition Senators and House of Representatives members on Monday, prior to the commencement of the 10th National Assembly.
The purpose of the meeting, as reported by Naija News, is likely to focus on strengthening the relationship between the Executive and Legislature and refining the process of electing the National Assembly’s leadership.
Invitation and Security Clearance
The invitation for the meeting, issued by Tijanni Umar, the Permanent Secretary of the State House, on behalf of the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, urged the lawmakers to attend and submit their list for security clearance.
President Tinubu is scheduled to meet with senators at 3 pm, followed by a meeting with members of the House of Representatives at 5 pm.
APC’s Endorsements for Key Positions
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s National Working Committee has endorsed Godswill Akpabio from the South-South region and Barau Jibrin from the Northwest region for the positions of Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively.
Furthermore, the party has endorsed Tajudeen Abbas from the Northwest region and Ben Kalu from the Southeast region for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Opposition Parties in the National Assembly
The National Assembly’s opposition is comprised of various political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Social Democratic Party, and others.
