Police Investigating Six Weekend Shootings Across Seattle

Two people were shot, one man was arrested, and officers recovered a gun after six separate shootings over the weekend.
Saturday evening at about 6:00 p.m., a witness flagged an officer down in the Chinatown-International District and told him someone had been shot at 12th Avenue South and South Jackson Street. Police responded to the scene and found a shell casing and several blood droplets, but no victim. None of the people in the area claimed to have seen or heard anything, and no suspect description was provided.

Later that night at about 11:00 p.m., a man in the 400 block of Dexter Avenue North flagged down a passerby and asked her to call 911 because he had been shot. The man had a gunshot wound to both of his legs. Seattle Fire Department medics treated the man at the scene and he was eventually transported by private ambulance to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers found a shooting scene at an encampment in the 500 block of Dexter Avenue North and recovered evidence.

Sunday morning at 6:27 a.m., multiple 911 callers reported hearing shots fired in the 4000 block of Rainier Avenue South. When police arrived, any involved parties had already fled the scene. Officers found damage to nearby buildings and a car, a trail of blood on the street and sidewalk, and more than 30 shell casings. Officers were unable to locate anyone with injuries at the scene.

Sunday at 12:10 p.m., police responded to a shooting at South Jackson Street and Maynard Avenue South. According to witnesses and evidence later collected at the scene, the suspect fired shots at a victim who fled on foot and was never found.
When police spotted the suspect a few blocks away, he also attempted to flee on foot. However, after a brief foot pursuit, officers took the man into custody. As police chased the man, they saw him throw a gun into a tent under the I-5 overpass at South Dearborn Street, where it was later recovered.
Police seized $933 in cash and approximately 17 grams of crack cocaine from the suspect as evidence, plus the armored vest he was wearing under his jacket.

Officers booked the 39-year-old man into King County Jail for first-degree assault, unlawful possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and unlawful possession of a firearm, as he is a convicted felon.

Later that afternoon at about 1:30 p.m., police were called to an encampment in the 600 block of Northeast 55th Street for a shooting. Responding officers found a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg. Seattle Fire Department medics treated the man at the scene and then transported him to HMC for additional care. The victim and witnesses provided investigating officers with a suspect description, and officers collected evidence from the scene.

Early Monday morning at 1:18 a.m., a man driving home from work in West Seattle called 911 to report being the victim of a drive-by shooting. He said that as he turned into the intersection of Delridge Way Southwest and Southwest Trenton Street, the driver of the car behind him fired several shots at his vehicle before driving away. Police collected ballistic evidence from the victim’s car and at the scene.
At this time, police do not believe there is a connection between these shootings and they remain under investigation.
