Police: 1 student killed, 2 wounded in North Carolina high school stabbing

On the fourth day of classes at an eastern North Carolina high school, there was an apparent stabbing that left one person dead and two others injured, according to authorities.

At a press conference, Jacksonville Police Chief Mike Yaniero informed the media that two youngsters were transported with injuries to the Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, where one of them eventually passed away.

He said that while the incident at Jacksonville’s Northside High School seemed to be a stabbing, the investigation was still underway. He said that while a teacher was hurt, they weren’t stabbed.

There was no present danger to the general population.

According to the chief, a school resource officer arrived within 20 seconds of learning about the incident at roughly 7 a.m., and a student suspect was arrested.

Numerous children were present when the incident took place inside the school in a common area, according to the police chief. He opted not to reveal names.

Lockdown conditions persisted until 8:45 a.m., at which point the school started the process of releasing pupils to their parents.

When police conducted a press conference in the middle of the morning, almost all kids had already gone with their parents.

There will be no athletic events or other activities on Friday; instead, it will be a virtual school day. On-site classes will start up again on Tuesday.

The assault took place only a few days after the start of the school year on Monday.
