The first multimillionaire to win the PowerBall jackpot in 2023 did it through the FNB banking app. Near the end of 2022, a second player triumphed in the same manner. National Lottery Operator Ithuba said that 18 participants won division 1 payouts by purchasing tickets through banking apps in 2017.

Lebogang Mokoena, a spokeswoman for Ithuba, informed The South African that the National Lottery has partnered with FNB, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Absa, Capitec, TymeBank, and most recently – African Bank.

Mokoena stated, “As you are aware, our games have different divisions, for instance, PowerBall goes up to division 9 in terms of winner payouts, LOTTO has 8 divisions, Daily LOTTO has 4, etc.”

After playing via their banks and other sites, many gamers have won. However, Ithuba was referring to the 18 winners of the first division (the jackpot), which generally amounts to millions of rands.

Below is a breakdown of division 1 lottery game winners in 2022 who participated via mobile banking apps.

FNB – 11 winners in Lotto and PowerBall

· Nedbank – 1 winner on Lotto

Standard Bank – Two winners on Lotto

Absa – Four winners in Lotto and PowerBall

Capitec – 0 victorious participants

African Bank – 0 prizewinners

· TymeBank – 0 winners

According to sources, FNB was the first bank to form a partnership with the national lottery in order to offer its customers the opportunity to play virtual lottery games. The service was established in July 2009, and other South African banks eventually accepted it.
