Outlook and Teams crash: Millions lose email

Following a widespread outage of Microsoft Teams and Outlook this morning, millions of individuals were left without access to email.

Over 4,885 people reported issues, according to downdetector.co.uk, a company that detects outages on mobile and digital platforms.

Just before 7:00 GMT this morning, the first Outlook outage report was sent, and they swiftly grew to hundreds.

Users vented their anger on Twitter amid the commotion; one said it was “the worst start to the day” due to the issues.

Another user said that the connection was so terrible during their Teams meeting that it seemed as if “everyone was on dial-up.”

Others are ecstatic about the unexpected “day off” they had since they were unable to do their work due to not having access to the apps.

What are we doing on our day off now that Teams and Outlook aren’t functioning, one Twitter user asked?

Microsoft 365 tweeted that it had “discovered a possible networking problem” and was evaluating data to decide the best course of action for debugging.

It also said that issues can still exist with other programs including Microsoft Graph, OneDrive for Business, Exchange Online, and SharePoint Online.

Initial reports of problems with the Microsoft toolkit originated from India, but they now seem to be impacting customers elsewhere.

The tech giant is about to release an upgrade.
