Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has received significant backlash after sending a message to Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, on May 29th, 2023.
Alongside Tinubu, 28 governors-elect and their deputies were also sworn in across the country.
Following Tinubu’s inauguration, Yul Edochie took to his Instagram account to congratulate the new president.
He wrote, “Congratulations to our new President and Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialasiwajubat and His Excellency Kashim Shettima @kashimshettimaofficial.
May God give you all you need to lead our country to greater heights.”
Backlash and Criticism on Social Media
However, Yul Edochie’s post triggered a wave of criticism from many of his fans on social media, who expressed their disapproval in the comment section.
One user, ebysweden, criticized Yul Edochie for not running for the presidential seat and suggested that his political ambition was shallow.
The user wrote, “You were supposed to run for this seat but alas, you chose toto over your fellow youths…
It’s a good day to celebrate that you never smelt any position in government bro.”
Another user, iamdoziefineboi___, accused the actor of seeking attention and turning himself into a joke.
They commented, “You like being dragged, this annoying man.
You breath and live for it…
Go back to the bottle whence you came from.”
Various other users expressed their disappointment, questioned the integrity of the election, and criticized Yul Edochie for congratulating Tinubu despite allegations of electoral misconduct.
Supportive Comments Amidst Criticism
However, amidst the criticism, there were a few supportive comments.
One user, chidimgba, defended Yul Edochie and urged others to let him be.
They pointed out that no one is innocent of certain flaws and reminded everyone to mind their own business.
