The Internship and Community Service Programme (ICSP) online system, which the Department of Health introduced on Thursday, will be used for the verification and registration process for medical internships and community service intake for the yearly cycle beginning in January 2023.
However, the system will formally start on September 13 and shut at midnight on September 25 of 2022, according to the government.
The majority of health science workers must complete ICSP after obtaining their bachelor degree.
Both preparing healthcare professionals for independent practise and providing the South African healthcare system with resources for health in areas and institutions that need it most are goals of these programmes.
The application procedure, according to the department, is intended for qualified candidates who satisfy the minimal standards in accordance with the public service and professional council prescriptions.
The statement said that the system will be evaluated to make sure it operates well and with few interruptions. “The verification procedure will also run simultaneously with the application process,” it said.

According to the National Health Insurance concept, the administration stated additional positions are being assigned to rural and underserved regions (NHI).

Students who studied overseas need first satisfy the criteria of professional bodies including the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), the South African Nursing Council (SANC), and the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
