The owner of Nairaland, Seun Osewa, has expressed his reaction to the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) announcing a nationwide strike in response to the removal of fuel subsidy.
The removal of the subsidy, declared by President Bola Tinubu in his inaugural speech, resulted in an increase in petrol prices across the country.
After the announcement, the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) reviewed its pump price for petrol from around N185 to over N500.
In response, the NLC demanded a reversal of the subsidy removal and threatened to protest next Wednesday against the increased petrol prices.
Taking to his Twitter page, Osewa questioned the rationale behind the NLC’s decision to go on strike, as many Nigerians have already accepted the new petrol prices.
He pointed out that people are relieved to be able to focus on their hustles and livelihoods instead of spending time queuing at fuel stations.
Osewa further queried whether the NLC’s strike action is politically motivated and called for an explanation from those who support the NLC’s stance.
Osewa’s comments highlight the public’s acceptance of the petrol price hike and their preference for a smoother fuel distribution system.
He raises doubts about the necessity of the NLC’s strike action, considering the prevailing sentiment among Nigerians.
