Today, a former minister accused Liz Truss of throwing her Chancellor “under the bus” over contentious tax cuts for the wealthy, igniting the Tory infighting over the economy.

The ultra-loyal fan of Boris Johnson, Nadine Dorries, attacked his replacement this morning, claiming Kwasi Kwarteng was behind the decision to eliminate the 45p tax rate for high incomes.

The declaration made in the mini-Budget just over a week ago – to be paid by significant increases in public borrowing – has been criticized on both sides of the political spectrum and contributed to market fear.

However, in an interview conducted this morning prior to the Conservative Party Conference, Ms. Truss stated that Mr. Kwarteng made the decision without consulting the Cabinet.

In response, Ms. Dorries, who supported Ms. Truss in the Tory leadership election before resigning as culture minister, tweeted, ‘One of Boris Johnson’s flaws was that he could be too loyal at times, and he understood that.

However, there is a delicate balance, and putting your Chancellor under the bus on the first day of the conference is not it. Hopefully, things will improve and calm down from here on out.
