After one of his patients died, a doctor in Florida was fined and prohibited for conducting the controversial Brazilian butt lift treatment, but he kept his medical license.
According to the Miami Herald, on June 16, 2021, Dr. John Sampson was sanctioned due to assertions made after a patient died following surgery.
He conducted the treatment at Seduction Cosmetic Surgery in Coral Gables, where a doctor was banned in 2017 for identical offenses.
According to a complaint filed against him, Sampson was the designated physician at Seduction, which meant he was not supposed to be doing surgery.
However, the complaint revealed that he had conducted multiple procedures between April and June of 2021, including seven on the day his patient passed away.

In June of this year, the Florida Board of Medicine issued an emergency order limiting practitioners to three BBL procedures each day.
The website indicates that BBLs can be performed for as little as $4,500, while Sampson’s Instagram – where he tags several of his patients as ‘Sampson Doll’ or ‘Sampson Stallion’ – offers reductions down to $3,500.
According to the complaint, Sampson perforated the liver and intestines of a patient known only as ‘E.R.’ and then injected her abdominal fat into her gluteal muscles.
Since 2019, this version of the BBL has been prohibited in the state of Florida. The patient died that same night at the young age of 33.
In addition, the allegation implied that Sampson and Seduction had misled on their documentation.

Sampson states in his bio on the Seduction website, “I entered the fields of cosmetic and plastic reconstructive surgery because I wanted to create a good, long-lasting influence on people’s life.” Because of this, I work extremely hard to build a customized treatment plan for each and every one of my patients, so that when we’re done, I know that they can move on in life with greater confidence and genuinely enjoy who they are.
On the same website, he is also described as a ‘board certified surgeon.’ Sampson’s sole board certification is labeled as’suspended’ on his profile page at the Florida Department of Health website.
Sampson had never been sanctioned before, but Seduction had a doctor revoked of his BBL privileges in 2017.
Osakatukei ‘Osak’ Omulepu lost the capacity to perform the surgery after witnessing the death of one of his patients.
Sampson was also assessed a $20,000 fine and $5,626 for the investigation and prosecution costs. However, his medical license will not be revoked.
In addition, he must complete five hours of continuing medical education and cannot serve as the designated surgeon at any surgery facility.
