Memphis Police: 19-year-old shoots 2 people in wild spree

The 19-year-old Memphis, Tennessee shooter, who is thought to be responsible for murdering four people and injuring three more, is seen on camera as he is being apprehended after leading police on an hour-long search.

On cellphone video, Ezekiel Kelly can also be seen being held up by police as he is led in handcuffs to an oncoming police vehicle. Kelly live-streamed his deadly rampage through the Home of the Blues on Facebook.

The guy, who is wearing a white T-shirt, long shorts, and white shoes, is being placed into a car while at least a dozen police officers pursue him.

In a picture shared on Twitter, Kelly can be seen grinning eerily from ear to ear as he waits to be taken to a jail while seated in the back seat of a cop car.

According to online court documents, the shooter was indicted as an adult on murder counts dating back to February 2020 on Wednesday.

He had previously been accused of first-degree murder, aggravated assault, having a gun while committing a crime, and reckless endangerment with a dangerous weapon in connection with a homicide that occurred on February 3, 2020.

The Commercial Appeal said that he received a three-year sentence but was freed on March 16 of this year.

It is unknown whether the indictment served as the catalyst for the shooting.

Around one in the morning, Kelly murdered a 24-year-old man on the 3100 block of Glendale Avenue to start his violent rampage across Memphis.

The gunman was recognised by five other witnesses as Zeek Huncho, Kelly’s Facebook identity.

Police said the shooter didn’t make a sound until 4:38 p.m. when he fatally shot a man at a BP gas station on South Parkway East.

The man was killed by Kelly when she pulled up to him in a grey vehicle, as shown on security footage from the man.

He injured a woman in the leg on Norris Road close to I-240 about ten minutes later, according to police. She was brought to the hospital and is likely to make it.

According to an internet video of the incident, Kelly is seen walking into an AutoZone in the 4000 block of Jackson Avenue while a man wearing a grey polo shirt waits behind the counter. The shooter lifts his pistol and opens fire on the man repeatedly.

The man, according to Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis, was seriously hurt.

This is really genuine, he is heard saying as he walks away.

Kelly’s short dreadlocks are seen in another clip taken from same programme as he drives down the road and declares, “It’s getting pretty crazy here,” followed by the sound of automatic gunfire.

At that point, the city was placed under lockdown by the government.

The Memphis police are looking for Ezekiel Kelly, 19, who is seen in this Facebook post, in connection with the shooting deaths of two persons.

According to the Daily Beast, the University of Memphis went into lockdown and public transit was halted.

According to the news source, the Memphis Red Birds halted their home game and removed the players.

He emerged at 7:23 p.m. on Poplar Avenue and North Evergreen Street, carjacked a woman, shot her, and stole her grey SUV after the trail went cold for almost an hour. He fired and injured a man close to North McClean Boulevard a minute later while continuing to go down Poplar Avenue, according to Chief Davis.

Once again, Kelly disappeared for nearly an hour and a half before resurfacing and killing a woman at around 8:55 p.m. on the 800 block of West Raines Street.

Minutes later, he was discovered carjacked a Dodge Challenger on Stateline Road and Highway 51. The car’s owner did not sustain any wounds.

He was eventually caught by police racing north on Interstate 55.

At Ivan and Hodge roads, Kelly crashed the automobile after failing to escape the police.

He did not resist arrest and was taken into custody when police discovered two firearms in his vehicle. Kelly sent an unsettling message in mid-August, stating “I’m sorry mommy,” on his Facebook page, where he often poses flashing weapons and cash. You despise the way I live, I know. I pledge I won’t go without a fight since I know you pray every night.

Eliza Fletcher, a 34-year-old abducted rich heiress, was discovered dead in Memphis the same week as the killing spree.

Cleotha Henderson, an ex-con who spent 20 years in prison for a prior kidnapping, has been accused by police of aggravated kidnapping, tampering with evidence, and murder.

For four days, the city was on edge as police searched for the mother of two who vanished while running.

Jim Strickland, the mayor of Memphis, pointed the finger firmly at the criminal justice system for Kelly’s crime spree.

At a news conference, he said, “I am furious for our folks who had to remain inside until the culprit was apprehended.” “This is not the way our folks should live,”

He said that Kelly had pled guilty to aggravated assault after being charged with first-degree murder in the prior case.

According to the mayor, he was given a three-year sentence but only spent 11 months.

These bad deeds demonstrate the need for accuracy in punishment, he added. “Mr. Kelly would still be in jail today if he had completed his three years in prison, and four of our countrymen would still be alive.”
