The estimated $685 million reward will be awarded to a winner who decides to receive annual payments for 29 years through an annuity. The vast majority of winners choose cash instead, resulting in a reduced payout.
The jackpot is the greatest since a $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot was won in California on November 8, 2017. This record-breaking payout has not yet had a winner declared.
The Mega Millions lottery is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
