Manufacturer George Weston Foods confirms that an oven at the Tip Top bakery in Canning suffered a ‘breakdown’ last week leaving millions of West Australians without bread

This week, thousands of Australians will have to go without bread due to a manufacturing problem at a large bakery.

An oven at the Tip Top bakery in Canning Vale, Perth, experienced a “breakdown” last week, according to producer George Weston Foods.

The issue has resulted in a shortage of baked goods from the well-known bakery in a number of stores in the West Australian metropolis.

Customers were angry when they saw shelves that were empty and signs warning people that some baked delicacies would be unavailable.

At a store in Cannington, in Perth’s southeast, a sign announced: “Due to supply chain issues, we are presently experiencing restricted product availability.”

“We are working hard to replenish shelves as soon as is safe.”

Customers were informed by a sign at a different supermarket that “This is due to unanticipated circumstances with regards to product availability for this store.”

The West Australian says that the supply at IGA outlets in East Perth, Balga, Bull Creek, East Victoria Park, and Beckenham has also been impacted.

A customer who visited four stores in the southeast of the city reported to the publication that the normally stocked shelves were almost empty of bread.

By the end of Tuesday, the bakery was “back to normal,” according to a George Weston Foods representative.
