Mamelodi Sundowns coach reveals three new signings are needed

Speaking after the 1-1 against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium the last weekend, Mngqithi was asked if his star-studded side could still get improved or not?

The former Golden Arrows and AmaZulu coach replied to confirm three vacancies in the heart of defense, central midfield, and the number nine positions.

“We lost Ricardo Nascimento in the left-side centre-back position so we only have Mosa Lebusa as a left-centre-back,” Mngqithi said as quoted by KickOff.

“As it is now, we have three centre-backs out with Brian [Onyango], Rush [De Reuck], and Grant [Kekana] so we’ve had to use Divin Lunga in the central defensive position.

“That already says that, if we had reached the semi-final of the CAF Champions League, we would have played with that central defence, and that says it’s an area we need to look.

“In central midfield, we lost Riva [ Rivaldo Coetzee] earlier in the season and we might still need to reinforce with a bit of a differently profiled central midfielder in terms of the physical profile and the other elements that are important in that space.

“Up front, as much as we have scored a lot of goals, we have not scored enough in terms of the number of chances we have created.

“We have been too reliant on Peter [Shalulile] and while many other players have chipped in with a few goals, I do believe we might still look to reinforce that area.

“There are other areas that are probably not as primary as those areas, but those three positions I really do think need reinforcement.”
